Dear Friends of Earth & Soul,
We are glimpsing light in our world in a unique way these days. Perhaps you have noticed the celebrations in the streets, people from different countries coming together to share stories, swap jerseys, dance, laugh, cheer and to love. The World Cup is the stage, yet it is in neighborhoods and in cities across the world where the true heart of humanity is experiencing connection. Yes, cheering for their teams to win, but does it not seem we are experiencing a win for humanity as well? Maybe it is “love-madness” as Rumi says!
In his book, The Great Search, John Philip Newell’s chapter on Rumi is about seeking love and reminding us to know God directly rather than just know about God.
“Don’t be satisfied with the stories of others, Rumi said. ‘Unfold your own myth.’ Open yourself to experience the love of the divine directly through one another and all things. And allow this to be the story at the heart of your faith.”
We celebrated the Solstice as an Earth & Soul community in June and gathered from all around the world online. We were there to be present to one another, to listen, to share, and to know our oneness. There were tears, joy, new connections, gratitude, and love.
When we experience heartache and chaos in the world let us open ourselves to experience the love of the divine through one another. Let’s write a new story together. A story of unity and love. We are being called to show up right where we are at this moment. As Mother Teresa once said, “We cannot all do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

John Philip invites us to “let go of everything that is not love.” May the following words from Rumi be our prayer in the coming days.
“Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.”
