Celtic Wisdom 1 (Online)

Celtic Wisdom 1 Online

Celtic Wisdom 1 Online is co-led by Cami Twilling, Director of Earth & Soul, and Catherine Gregg, Colleague Teacher of Earth & Soul. The format will be 2-hour Zoom sessions on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. We will hear from John Philip Newell via pre-recorded video sessions from Iona, have a time of spiritual practice to listen to what is stirring within us followed by a short time for reflection in small groups as well as reflection and questions in the whole group.

In 2016 John Philip Newell began a teaching initiative of annual retreats to help reawaken awareness of the sacred in all things through the recovery of Celtic wisdom for today and to help translate this awareness into compassionate action in our lives and world.

Celtic Wisdom 1 is the first of a three-part series of annual retreats offered by Earth & Soul in which we explore the sacredness of every human being, the sacredness of the feminine, and the sacredness of Earth.

The teachings of this retreat are based on John Philip’s award-winning book Sacred Earth Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Reawakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World (especially Chapters 1, 2, and 7 drawing on the wisdom of Pelagius, Brigid, and Teilhard de Chardin).

The essential text for the three-year Celtic Wisdom program is John Philip Newell’s Sacred Earth Sacred Soul. The shared prayer book for this program is Sounds of the Eternal: A Celtic Psalter.

Celtic Wisdom 1 can be taken as a stand-alone retreat or in conjunction with Celtic Wisdom 2 and Celtic Wisdom 3 which can be attended in any order and at any of our retreat centers across the country or online.

Cami Twilling, based in Colorado, is the Director of Earth & Soul. As well as heading up the overall work of Earth & Soul, she facilitates the spiritual practice component of the Earth & Soul Retreats. Previously she was the Director of Contemplative Spirituality and Youth Ministry at Trinity UMC in downtown Denver. She has studied meditation in the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition of Shambhala and received Spiritual Direction certification from the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction in Tucson, Arizona. In addition to leading mountain and urban retreats, she has led international pilgrimage groups to Iona in the Western Isles of Scotland and work teams to Guatemala to build houses in communities that have suffered from political strife and economic hardship. Cami is passionate about the relationship between spirituality and action and believes that spiritual vision and practice can play a vital role in helping to heal and transform our lives both individually and together.

Catherine Gregg, D.Min. is a retired Episcopal priest. The former Director of a D.Min. Program in Spirituality, she continues to learn and to teach about many aspects of our inner life with the Sacred Spirit. She especially loves to share about Celtic Spirituality, contemplative prayer in its many forms, and how “faithing” matures and develops over a lifetime. She and her husband Douglas created a 3-year training course in Spiritual Direction that has trained spiritual directors/companions throughout the western United States for over 30 years. Catherine served for many years as a Rector in Episcopal churches, created and directed a Chaplaincy program at a regional hospital, worked for the Diocese of Nevada as the Canon to the Ordinary, and now serves as the Executive Director for the Interfaith Contemplative Center for Spirituality and Healthcare in Southern Nevada. She is a Certificated Sommelier and enjoys leading workshops on the “Spirituality of Wine Tasting.” Since the recent death of her much beloved husband, Catherine draws strength and solace in the stillness of solo hiking, and in reflection and writing.
